3. Why We Process Information

We may process personal information to create and authenticate accounts; verify Riders and Drivers where appropriate; enable transportation bookings; match Riders and Drivers; calculate and manage trips; process payments and refunds; manage Driver earnings and payouts; provide GoDaily, GoSocial and GoGuardian; send trip and operational notifications; prevent fraud and abuse; provide support; investigate complaints and incidents; comply with legal obligations; protect MzansiGo, users and the public; and maintain Platform reliability.

4. Legal Basis and POPIA

MzansiGo processes personal information in accordance with applicable South African law, including the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Depending on the context, processing may be necessary to perform a contract with you, comply with legal obligations, protect legitimate interests, protect a person's legitimate interests, or take place with your consent where required.

MzansiGo aims to process only information that is adequate, relevant and not excessive for the purpose for which it is collected.

5. Location Information

Location information is essential to core MzansiGo functionality. Depending upon the service and permissions granted, location may be processed while the app is active and, where required for an active trip or approved safety functionality, while the application operates in the background.

MzansiGo may use location to identify pickup position, find nearby Drivers, operate active trips, provide GoGuardian, update trusted-contact trip information, support Driver navigation, manage scheduled transportation, prevent fraud and investigate safety incidents.

Users can control certain location permissions through their device, but disabling required location access may prevent important MzansiGo functionality from working.

6. GoGuardian and Trusted Contacts

Where a Rider activates GoGuardian or another trip-sharing feature, relevant trip information may be shared with the trusted contact selected or registered by the Rider.

This can include Rider/trip identification, Driver information, vehicle information, trip status, live or recent location information and relevant safety information.

The Rider should only nominate a trusted contact whose information they are entitled to provide to MzansiGo.

7. Information Shared Between Riders and Drivers

MzansiGo may share appropriate Driver and vehicle information with Riders to fulfil trips and enable safety verification. Drivers receive only information reasonably required to perform the trip and use relevant Platform functionality.

Drivers are prohibited from using Rider information for unrelated purposes.

8. Payment Providers

MzansiGo may provide necessary transaction information to authorised payment providers such as Paystack. Payment providers may independently process information according to their own legal obligations and privacy notices.

MzansiGo should not receive or store full payment-card credentials where payment processing is handled directly by an authorised provider.

9. Service Providers and Operators

MzansiGo may use trusted third parties to provide services such as hosting, cloud infrastructure, mapping, navigation, messaging, email, push notifications, analytics, security, fraud prevention, support and payment processing.

Where a service provider processes personal information on MzansiGo's behalf, MzansiGo will take reasonable steps to require appropriate confidentiality, security and lawful processing arrangements.

10. When We May Share Personal Information

MzansiGo may share personal information where reasonably necessary with Drivers or Riders for trip fulfilment, payment/service providers, professional advisers, insurers, regulators, law-enforcement authorities, emergency services, courts or other parties where required or permitted by law.

MzansiGo does not sell personal information as a business model.

11. Cross-Border Processing

Some technology or service providers may process or store information outside South Africa. Where cross-border processing occurs, MzansiGo will take reasonable steps to ensure that the transfer is permitted by POPIA and that appropriate safeguards are in place.

12. Data Retention

MzansiGo retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide services, resolve disputes, investigate safety or fraud matters, meet accounting/tax requirements, comply with legal obligations and maintain appropriate audit records.

Different categories of information may have different retention periods. Information may be retained for longer where required by law, litigation hold, regulatory obligation or a legitimate safety/fraud investigation.

13. Security

MzansiGo uses reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.

No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect their devices, authentication credentials and OTPs and should not share account access with unauthorised persons.

14. Push Notifications and Communications

MzansiGo may send operational communications relating to account verification, bookings, Driver arrival, trip progress, safety, payments, refunds and service notices.

Where marketing communications are sent, MzansiGo will provide appropriate controls or opt-out mechanisms where required by law.

15. Cookies and Website Technologies

The MzansiGo website may use cookies or similar technologies for essential functionality, security, preferences, analytics or performance.

Where required, users will be given appropriate notice or choice. Additional information may be provided in the MzansiGo Cookie Policy.

16. Children

MzansiGo does not intentionally collect personal information from children for purposes unrelated to lawful transportation services. Where information about a child is processed in connection with a permitted booking, MzansiGo will process it only where lawful and reasonably necessary.

17. Your POPIA Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to request confirmation that MzansiGo holds personal information about you, request access to that information, request correction or deletion where appropriate, object to certain processing, or request restriction in circumstances recognised by law.

Some information cannot be deleted immediately where MzansiGo must retain it for legal, accounting, safety, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution reasons.

18. Account and Data Deletion

Where supported, users may request account deletion through the application, website or support channels. Account deletion does not necessarily require immediate deletion of every record where MzansiGo is legally entitled or required to retain particular information.

19. Automated Decisions and Fraud Prevention

MzansiGo may use automated rules or system checks to detect suspicious activity, prevent duplicate payments, enforce booking eligibility, manage safety controls or reduce fraud. Where a decision has a significant effect and applicable law provides a right to review, MzansiGo will handle requests in accordance with the law.

20. Complaints and the Information Regulator

If you have a privacy question or complaint, please contact MzansiGo first so we can attempt to resolve it.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) where you believe your personal information has been processed in breach of POPIA. Current contact information is available from the Information Regulator's official website.

MzansiGo may update this Privacy Policy from time to time because of changes to law, regulation, Platform functionality, service providers or business operations.
